Three farmers die from electric shocks in one week
Chandrapur (Rautahat), July 24
Three farmers have died from electric shocks while irrigating their fields in Rautahat within a week.
On Wednesday alone, two farmers lost their lives. Rambabu Mukhiya, 40, from Bishanpurwa, died after getting an electric shock while using an electric motor for irrigation. He passed away during treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Gaur, said DSP Rajan Karki of the Garuda police.
On the same day, Moktar Dewan, 52, from Kataharia, also died from electrocution while irrigating his field. He was taken to Grande Hospital in Garuda but died during treatment.
Earlier, on June 27, 14-year-old Narendra Patel (also known as Golu) from Maulapur died after being electrocuted while watering his fields.
This year, due to low rainfall and drought in the Tarai region, many farmers are relying on electric pumps to draw groundwater for paddy transplanting and irrigation, increasing the risk of such accidents.
