Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71 from a heart attack, WWE has confirmed.
Born Terry Bollea, Hogan began his wrestling career in 1977 and became one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling during the 1980s and 1990s. He got the nickname “Hulk” after being compared to the strong TV character from The Incredible Hulk.
He joined the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in 1979 and adopted the name Hulk Hogan. With his signature red-and-yellow outfits, entrance music “Real American,” and a huge fan following called “Hulkamaniacs,” he quickly became a global icon.
Hogan stayed active in wrestling even into his 50s and also appeared in several movies and TV shows during his career.
WWE released a statement offering condolences and said Hogan will always be remembered as one of the most legendary figures in wrestling history.
