126 People Killed by Disasters in Four Months
Kathmandu, Aug 17: From April 19 to August 17, Nepal recorded 2,853 disaster incidents, leaving 126 people dead and 585 injured, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
During this period, 5,041 families were affected and 23 people went missing. Major incidents included 216 floods, 317 landslides, 221 heavy rains, 245 lightning strikes, and 77 snakebites.
Other disasters reported were 1,114 fires, 158 wildfires, 277 storms, 172 wild animal attacks, 46 landslides, five earthquakes, two boat accidents, one hailstorm, and several others.
On August 16 alone, Nepal saw seven fires, one flood, eight landslides, four incidents of continuous rain, and three wild animal attacks, resulting in one death.
The total estimated loss from disasters during this period is around Rs 3.84 million.
