Chakre Milan Remains in Custody Despite Bail Order
Kathmandu, August 14 – Milan Gurung, also known as Chakre Milan and known as a gang leader, was not released immediately despite a bail order in an indecent behavior case.
On Wednesday, a bench of Judge Khimananda Bhusal at Kathmandu District Court had ordered Chakre’s release on a Rs 30,000 bail. While other defendants granted bail alongside him paid the amount and were released the same day, Chakre remained in custody.
Kathmandu District Police Range spokesperson SP Kuldeep Chand explained that Chakre could not be released immediately because he is facing an attempted murder case in Bhaktapur. DSP Dhundiraj Neupane of Bhaktapur District Police Range also confirmed that Chakre would be transferred there after his release from Kathmandu.
As a result, although 18 others arrested with Chakre were released after paying bail, he was unlikely to be freed on Wednesday.
The case traces back to August 26, 2024, when Dinesh Kumar Rayamajhi filed a complaint alleging that Chakre and others attacked his nephew, Manish Rayamajhi, at Buddha’s Tawa Restaurant in Sanothimi. The attack reportedly involved Ajit Khawas and others, and Chakre was later named in the case. Rayamajhi was injured in both hips by a khukuri during the incident.
Chakre was initially not made a defendant because his whereabouts were unknown. He was arrested on July 30, 2024, in a joint operation by the Valley Crime Investigation Office and Kathmandu District Police Range, alongside 46 others, during a noisy birthday party at Hotel Sambala in Maharajgunj. Of those arrested, 28 were later released.
Chakre will now be investigated in connection with the Bhaktapur case before any further release.
