CIAA Files Corruption Case Against Bhaktapur Land Revenue Chief; Chakre Milan Granted Bail by Court

 Kathmandu, August 13 – The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a chargesheet at the Special Court in Kathmandu against Kumar Acharya, Chief of the Land Revenue Office in Bhaktapur, on corruption charges. Office Assistant Tikaram Raut is also named in the case.

According to CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel, a team from the CIAA head office in Tangal caught the two officials accepting a bribe of Rs 2.45 million in exchange for issuing a land ownership certificate for 14.4 ropani of land in Changunarayan Municipality, Bhaktapur. Investigators seized Acharya’s and Raut’s mobile phones along with the bribe money from the Land Revenue Office premises.

In a separate case, the Kathmandu District Court has granted bail to 19 individuals, including Milan Gurung, also known as Chakre Milan. Information Officer Deepak Kumar Shrestha said Gurung’s bail was set at Rs 30,000, while the remaining 18 individuals were released on varying bail amounts. Gurung and his associates had been arrested on July 31 at the Shambala Hotel in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.
