CIB warns public: “Nepse AI” app used to steal money
Kathmandu, August 14 – The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has warned the public about a fraudulent mobile app called “Nepse AI.” The scam has been promoted on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, with promises of high profits from the stock market.
The CIB cautions that the app is designed to steal users’ money and personal information. Once installed, it can take full control of a device, allowing scammers to transfer funds from the victim’s bank accounts. In one reported case, a person lost Rs 2.86 million. The criminals can also remotely delete all data and apps to cover their tracks.
The CIB urges people to be extremely cautious: do not click on suspicious links or download unknown apps like “Nepse AI.” Cybercrime is on the rise, and such fraudulent apps can compromise both personal devices and financial information.
To stay safe, the CIB recommends downloading apps only from official stores like Google Play or the App Store, enabling two-factor authentication, regularly changing passwords, and avoiding granting remote access to devices through apps like AnyDesk or TeamViewer.
Anyone who has fallen victim to this scam should immediately contact their bank, the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau, or other relevant financial authorities.
