Committee formed to investigate inmate’s death during treatment
BIRGUNJ, AUGUST 13 — The District Administration Office in Parsa has set up a committee to investigate the death of inmate Rahul Sah Turah, who passed away while receiving treatment at Narayani Hospital on Tuesday.
A meeting chaired by Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal formed the probe panel, coordinated by Assistant Chief District Officer Babulal Regmi, giving them 15 days to complete the investigation and submit a report.
The committee includes Deputy Superintendent and Information Officer Kishor Lamsal, local representative Jagdish Sah Turah, the deceased’s brother Makesh Sah Turah, human rights activist Man Kumari Lama, FNJ district chairperson Om Prakash Khanal, and a representative from the Nepal Medical Association. The meeting also decided to proceed with other legal steps, including a postmortem.
Turah was serving a three-year jail term for a murder case at Birgunj prison. According to prison chief Khimraj Bhusal, he was taken to Narayani Hospital after complaining of severe chest pain early Tuesday morning. However, his relatives have accused the Chief District Officer of not allowing him to be referred to a better medical facility.
Following his death, Turah’s family protested by burning tires at the hospital gate.
