Deuba Calls for Responsible Use of Digital Platforms to Promote Development
KATHMANDU, AUGUST 14 – Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has highlighted that using digital platforms responsibly and effectively is key to building a progressive digital future.
Speaking at the inauguration of the programme “Use, Impact and Effects of Digital Platforms” organized by the NC Information, Communications, and Publicity Department at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Deuba said everyone can contribute to society and the nation through proper use of digital technology.
“Digital platforms have made services and facilities faster and more transparent. By using them positively, we can support individual, societal, and national development,” he said.
Deuba noted that millions of people access digital platforms daily via mobile phones, the internet, computers, and social media, and that these platforms are increasingly used in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, banking, aviation, and public services. He praised technology’s role in making public services more convenient, efficient, and transparent, citing examples like mobile banking, online applications, e-learning, and digital healthcare.
“The Telecommunications Policy, Act, and Regulations, introduced under the NC-led government, have expanded access to technology across Nepal, including remote areas. Yet, there is still much to be done in the tech sector,” he added.
Deuba reaffirmed the party’s commitment to leveraging technology for social transformation. “The NC is dedicated to creating public policies that use digital platforms to boost economic activity, strengthen good governance, and promote innovation across various sectors, including the private sector,” he said.
He also called for large-scale public awareness campaigns to prevent misuse of technology, emphasizing that such initiatives are vital for promoting responsible digital use.
NC leaders at the programme echoed his message. Assistant General Secretary Mahalaxmi Upadhyay Dina said digital platforms have become essential in modern life and stressed the need to learn how to use them effectively. NC Central Information, Communications, and Publicity Department Chief Min Bahadur Biswokarma highlighted the importance of using digital platforms to communicate the party’s activities and messages to the public.
