England Needs 35 Runs to Beat India as 5th Test Heads for Thrilling Final Day
London, August 3
The fifth and final Test between England and India is set for a dramatic Monday finish after bad light and rain cut play short on Sunday. England, chasing a target of 374, ended day four at 339 for 6—just 35 runs away from victory. With England leading the series 2-1, a win would seal the series, while India needs four more wickets (possibly just three, due to injury) to level it.
England's allrounder Chris Woakes, sidelined with a shoulder injury, was seen in his playing kit but with his left arm in a sling. There's speculation he could bat one-handed if absolutely necessary, likely coming in at No. 11.
Joe Root once again anchored England's innings with a solid 105, supported by Harry Brook's 111, as they pushed for another remarkable chase. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith (2*) and bowler Jamie Overton (0*) are currently at the crease.
England has already pulled off a big chase in this series, having chased 371 in the opening Test at Leeds — their highest successful run chase at Headingley.
