Flood in Bajura destroys 11 homes, puts dozens at risk

 KATHMANDU, AUGUST 14 – A flood in the Bichyya River on Wednesday night in Himali Rural Municipality-1, Bajura, destroyed 11 houses, according to the District Police Office. Seven more houses were damaged, and 17 others remain at high risk. Farmland and local shops in the area also suffered significant losses.

Police Inspector Dev Bahadur Chaudhary said Wards 1, 3, and 5 were the hardest hit. A team from the Kawadi Police Post has reached the affected areas to collect information.

In Ward No. 5, the homes of Nawaraj Buda, Devilal Chadara, Birbal Chadara, Ajay Chadara, Heusara Lwar, and Angabir Chadara were completely washed away. The flood also damaged public offices, health centers, schools, and a suspension bridge in Ward No. 1.

Rural Municipality Chairperson Govinda Bahadur Malla has visited the affected areas to assess the damage and review the immediate needs of the victims, said Chief Administrative Officer Kul Bahadur Thapa. Chairperson Malla added that an executive meeting will soon decide on relief and rehabilitation measures for those hardest hit by the flood.
