FM Rana: Nepal–India Relations Are Historic and Strong

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 15 – Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has described Nepal–India relations as historic, close, and based on strong cooperation, while emphasizing the need to further strengthen these ties. She made the remarks at a program organized by the Indian Embassy in Nepal to mark India’s 79th Independence Day.

“India is a good friend of Nepal,” she said, highlighting the long-standing and multidimensional relationship between the two countries. The Minister praised India’s remarkable economic progress and expressed confidence that both nations would continue to collaborate in trade, technology, infrastructure, and in addressing public needs.

“Nepal–India relations are not only shaped by geographical proximity, but also by shared culture, ancient wisdom, and enduring people-to-people connections,” she added.

She also stressed that cooperation is crucial for tackling shared challenges like climate change and achieving sustainable development. Earlier in the day, Dr. Rana conveyed her Independence Day greetings to the Government and people of India through her Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar.
