Foreign Minister Arzu Rana calls on foreign investors to explore opportunities in Sudurpaschim

Kathmandu, Aug 29 – Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has urged international investors to put money into Sudurpaschim Province, highlighting its natural resources and cultural heritage.

Speaking at a meeting on Friday, held as part of preparations for the Sudurpaschim Investment and Development Conference in Dhangadhi (Nov 17–18), Dr. Rana described the province as a land of great natural beauty and a potential gateway to Nepal’s prosperity.

She pointed out that Sudurpaschim has huge opportunities in hydropower, renewable energy, agriculture, tourism, cross-border trade, urban development, IT and digital infrastructure, mining, and industries based on natural resources. “I urge both domestic and foreign investors to explore opportunities here,” she said.

Although the province has abundant water, fertile land, forests, biodiversity, and cultural heritage, Dr. Rana noted it has remained underdeveloped because these resources haven’t been fully utilized. She welcomed the upcoming investment conference as a good step to showcase the province’s potential and attract investors.

Dr. Rana also reminded that past development projects, such as road networks linking Sudurpaschim to Kathmandu, were built during the leadership of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. She added that the government has already amended key laws to make Nepal more investment-friendly.

Stressing the importance of federalism, she said provinces like Sudurpaschim should actively use their own strengths and create local growth models instead of depending only on the central government.
