Indonesian Independence Day celebrated in Kathmandu with a flag hoisting ceremony.

Kathmandu, August 17 – The Office of the Honorary Consul of Indonesia in Nepal celebrated the 80th Indonesian Independence Day with a flag hoisting ceremony at the IME Complex in Panipokhari on Sunday.

Honorary Consul Chandra Prasad Dhakal, who is also the Chairperson of IME Group, raised Indonesia’s red and white national flag to mark the occasion. In his address, Dhakal highlighted the growing diplomatic ties between Nepal and Indonesia since relations were formally established in 1960.

Dhakal, who also leads the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), noted that bilateral relations have strengthened in recent years, particularly in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. He emphasized Indonesia’s role as an important trade partner for Nepal and its rising appeal as a tourism destination in the ASEAN region.

“Both countries are working on initiatives that benefit each other, including cultural exchanges and tourism collaboration,” Dhakal said, adding that the partnership reflects shared values and long-term cooperation.

He also appreciated the Indonesian community in Nepal, saying their participation symbolizes enduring friendship and a commitment to a prosperous future.

The ceremony, attended by the Indonesian community, dignitaries, and well-wishers, concluded with reflections on Indonesia’s cultural and economic significance and the potential for deeper collaboration between the two countries, especially in commerce and tourism.
