Moderate rain expected in parts of Nepal

 Kathmandu, Aug 30: The monsoon’s low-pressure trough is currently positioned north of its usual location in the east and around the normal position in the west.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted generally cloudy weather across the country this afternoon. Some areas of the Terai and hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces may receive moderate rainfall, along with a few places in other hilly regions, including Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and one or two places in the Terai.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy nationwide, with moderate rain possible in some hilly areas of all provinces and a few places in the Terai.

KHOTANG, February 28 – The First National Bamboo Conference is currently being held in Diktel Bazaar, running from February 27 to March 1. The event was officially opened at the Khotang Multi-Purpose Covered Hall, and an exhibition showcasing various bamboo products is taking place nearby at the Matikore playground. The event is organized mainly by Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality. Even the welcome gate and stage at the venue are built using bamboo. Gold prices keep going up

  Kathmandu, June 18 — Gold prices have been rising in the international market since June 10, and this has also pushed up prices in Nepal. When the market opened today, the price of gold had gone up by Rs 900 per tola (11.66 grams) compared to Tuesday, while silver rose by Rs 65 per tola. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, gold is now being traded at Rs 195,500 per tola, and silver at Rs 2,225 per tola. International reports show that gold is currently priced at 3,393 US dollars per ounce in the global market.

Johannes Zutt Named New World Bank Vice President for South Asia

  June 30, Kathmandu – The World Bank has named Johannes Zutt as its new Vice President for the South Asia Region, replacing Martin Raiser. He will officially take on the role starting July 1, 2025. In this position, Zutt will oversee the World Bank’s work in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. He will manage a portfolio of projects, financial support, and technical assistance worth $39 billion. Under his leadership, the World Bank aims to continue its focus on key challenges in the region, such as job creation, climate resilience, disaster preparedness, improving human capital, and encouraging private investment.
