“NRNs must retain right to citizenship by descent, says RPP Chair Lingden”
Jhapa, Aug 31: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has urged that non-resident Nepalis (NRNs) should continue to receive citizenship based on descent.
Speaking at a press conference in Birtamod, organized by the party’s district committee, Lingden said that citizenship by descent helps connect Nepalis living abroad to Nepal’s prosperity.
“Nepal exists outside Nepal as well,” he said. “Even though they live beyond the country’s borders, Nepalis abroad still care deeply about Nepal.”
He added that the restriction on dual citizenship, introduced after the 2006 political changes through an amendment to the Citizenship Act, has created difficulties for many Nepalis who went abroad to study, work, or earn a living.
