Patan High Court Grants Bail to Durga Prasai in Banking and Protest-Related Cases
Kathmandu, August 4 – The Patan High Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail in two different cases—one involving banking fraud and the other related to violent protests linked to the royalist movement.
On Monday, a bench of Justices Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and Munendra Prasad Awasthi granted Prasai bail of Rs 2.5 million in the banking offence case, citing his health condition as one of the reasons for the decision.
Then today, another bench of Justices Tanka Prasad Gurung and Dilli Ratna Shrestha ordered his release on an additional bail of Rs 300,000 in the case concerning violent demonstrations under the royalist campaign in March.
Previously, the District Court in Kathmandu had charged Prasai with crimes against the state, attempted murder, and other criminal offenses, ordering that he remain in judicial custody. The High Court’s bail decision came after Prasai filed a petition challenging that earlier ruling.
