PM Oli says the current political coalition will stay in place until the 2084 elections.
KATHMANDU, AUGUST 13 – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has clarified that the government has no intention of taking political revenge against anyone, including those in police custody for alleged involvement in major cooperative fraud. Speaking in today’s House of Representatives session, he pointed out that this is not the first time a prominent political figure has been detained; similar cases have happened before.
He said, “There is a false narrative that the government is seeking political revenge against someone under investigation for cooperative fraud.”
PM Oli also criticized lawmakers who are repeatedly blocking the House over the detention of an individual under police investigation, noting that the matter is already before the court. His remarks came in response to protests by members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who oppose the remanding of their party Chair, Rabi Lamichhane, over fraud allegations.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening all pillars of democracy—the parliament, the government, and the judiciary—without falling prey to public manipulation. He reassured that judicial decisions are independent and not influenced by the government.
Oli added that the government remains focused on ensuring political and policy stability and reviving the economy. He also urged that parliament should not be used to create social media content based on false or misleading narratives.
Finally, he confirmed that the current political coalition will remain stable until the next general elections, scheduled for 2084 BS.
