Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to visit India, and his trip is expected to differ from past visits. Unlike previous prime ministers, Oli’s visit will be very short—just two days—and his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may take place in Bodh Gaya instead of the usual Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The visit will focus on strengthening ties, following up on past agreements, and discussing a few new projects.

 Kathmandu, August 15

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will soon visit India after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Beijing on August 31 and September 1.

Oli’s India visit is planned for August 31. Preparations will be discussed when Indian Foreign Secretary Bikram Misri visits Kathmandu this Sunday. This will be Oli’s first trip to India since becoming prime minister 14 months ago and is expected to differ from previous visits in several ways.

Unlike past trips, Oli’s visit is likely to be very short—just two days—making it possibly the briefest official visit by a Nepali prime minister to India. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Oli and his delegation will leave on August 31 and return on September 1.

The meeting location with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to break tradition. Instead of the usual Hyderabad House in New Delhi, the leaders may meet in Bodh Gaya, the holy site where Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment.

Further details are still being finalized, with more discussions expected during Misri’s visit. The focus of Oli’s trip will mainly be on strengthening Nepal-India relations, following up on past agreements, and discussing a few new projects, rather than launching major new initiatives.
