Traffic resumes on Kaligandaki Corridor

Gulmi, August 14 – The Kaligandaki Corridor, which had been blocked by a landslide since Wednesday morning, has reopened today.

Continuous rainfall had triggered the landslide at Rakshe in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-2, sending large rocks and debris onto the road and halting traffic. The debris was cleared with an excavator, restoring movement along the Corridor, one of Nepal’s national pride projects, according to DSP Ganga Bahadur Saru, Information Officer at the Gulmi District Police Office.

However, the Ridi–Tamghas road along the Madan Bhandari Highway in Gulmi is still blocked after another landslide hit Bakhrebhir in Ruru Rural Municipality-3 this morning. Efforts to clear the road have been slowed by ongoing rain and repeated landslides.

Gulmi and nearby areas have faced continuous light to moderate rainfall for the past three days, raising water levels in the Badigaad Stream and Kaligandaki River. Authorities have urged residents living near riverbanks to stay on high alert and move to safer areas due to the risk of floods and landslides.
