Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back US Open, Claims 4th Grand Slam Title

NEW YORK, September 7 – Aryna Sabalenka defended her U.S. Open title on Saturday, beating Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6 (3) to win the tournament for the second year in a row.

It wasn’t smooth sailing for the world No. 1. Just two points away from victory, Sabalenka missed what should have been an easy overhead, handing Anisimova a break chance. The mistake brought back memories of her defeats in this year’s Australian Open and French Open finals. But instead of collapsing, she took a breath, refocused, and pushed through.

“She broke me after that point, but I told myself, ‘Reset,’” Sabalenka said with a laugh. Fifteen minutes later, she sealed the win, dropped to her knees on Arthur Ashe Stadium’s court, and covered her face in relief.

The 27-year-old from Belarus now has four Grand Slam titles, all on hard courts. She is also the first woman since Serena Williams (2012–14) to win back-to-back U.S. Opens, and she avoided becoming the first player since 2006 to lose three major finals in one season.

Anisimova, the No. 8 seed, fought hard and had the crowd behind her but admitted afterward: “I think I didn’t fight hard enough for my dreams today. She deserves this – she works so hard.”

The match, played indoors under the closed Ashe roof due to rain, was filled with powerful rallies and tense momentum swings. Anisimova hit more winners but also committed far more errors. In the end, Sabalenka’s composure made the difference.

“I told myself, ‘No, it’s not going to happen again. It’s OK,’” Sabalenka said, celebrating with Champagne and her trademark humor after the win.
