Asia to Witness Stunning Total Lunar Eclipse This Weekend
CAPE CANAVERAL, September 7 – The second total lunar eclipse of the year is almost here, and Asia will have the best view this time. On Sunday night, Earth will move directly between the sun and the moon, covering the full moon with its shadow.
The eclipse will last over five hours in total, with the full “blood moon” phase — when the moon looks red — lasting one hour and 22 minutes.
Earlier in March, the Americas got the best view of a shorter lunar eclipse. But this weekend, the spectacle will be fully visible across Asia — from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines, from the Arctic Ocean down to Antarctica — along with parts of East Africa and western Australia.
Other regions, including the rest of Africa, parts of Australia, and Europe, will see only part of the event. Some glimpses will also be visible from Brazil’s coast and parts of Alaska.
Two weeks later, a partial solar eclipse will follow, visible from New Zealand, parts of Australia, and Antarctica.
