Himalaya Jet will sponsor the Nepali Mela and Gurkha Cup for the next 10 years.

London, July 16

The new British premium airline, Himalaya Jet, has announced it will sponsor two of the biggest annual events for the Nepali community in the UK — the Gurkha Cup and Nepali Mela — for the next 10 years as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. These events are organized by Tamu Dhee UK together with the Embassy of Nepal.

Himalaya Jet also revealed that direct flights between Nepal and major cities like Sydney and Perth in Australia, as well as European cities such as Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, Lisbon, and London, are almost ready to launch. These historic first flights are planned to start in Autumn 2025.

Calling the airline “patriotic,” Himalaya Jet said this achievement comes after years of hard work, careful planning, and following rules across several countries. The airline also aims to connect famous casino cities like Las Vegas and Macau to Monte Carlo by 2027 or 2028, offering luxury first and business-class services for travelers.

At a special event hosted by Tamu Dhee UK, Himalaya Jet’s President and Owner, Dipendra Gurung, was honored with a traditional Piper ceremony and a champagne toast dedicated to King Charles III and the President of Nepal. The event also featured cultural performances by Nepali artists.

Tamu Dhee UK Chairperson Jumkaji Gurung called Himalaya Jet’s international flight project “the biggest game-changer in the history of Nepal and Nepali people.” Chief Coordinator Kamal Gurung said it was the first time in Tamu Dhee’s 25 years that they had honored such a high-profile guest.

Duchess Nivin praised Gurung’s patriotic vision and talked about upcoming programs by the airline. Ian George from the Gurung Family Office gave updates on Himalaya Jet and other related projects like airport infrastructure, aviation investments, and luxury retail. He also shared his experience working with the Gurung family for over five years.

Himalaya Jet plans to hold its first official press conference in London soon to share full details about its operations.
