Major drug and fake currency bust in Surkhet: Five arrested

KATHMANDU, July 15 — Police in Surkhet have seized a large amount of opium and fake currency, arresting five people in connection with the case. The suspects were presented to the media on Tuesday in Birendranagar by the District Police Office.


According to Superintendent of Police Sudhir Raj Shahi, the arrested individuals include 22-year-old Dilmaya Singh Thakuri and her brother Ram Bahadur Singh, 33, from Kushe Rural Municipality in Jajarkot, as well as Krishna Bahadur Wali, 35, from the same area.


Also arrested were Prem Bahadur BK, 38, from Bheriganga Municipality in Surkhet, and Man Bahadur Sahakari from Kalikot, who currently runs Janagarjan Media Pvt. Ltd. in Kohalpur, Banke.


Police recovered fake currency worth Rs 1.3 million and opium valued at around Rs 9 million. Investigations suggest the group used about Rs 200,000 in counterfeit notes to pay local traders in Surkhet and Jajarkot while purchasing the illegal drugs.
