Nighttime vehicle ban on BP Highway’s Kavrepalanchowk section starts July 17

KATHMANDU, July 15 — Authorities have announced a 12-hour nightly restriction on vehicle movement along the Kavrepalanchowk section of the BP Highway starting July 17, due to increased risks of landslides and floods during the monsoon season.

The decision, made by the District Security Committee during a meeting at the District Administration Office in Dhulikhel, will ban traffic from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM for one month. The affected stretch runs from Kavrebhanjyang to Nepalthok, near the Sindhuli border.

This move follows earlier restrictions, enforced jointly by the District Security Committees of Kavrepalanchowk, Ramechhap, and Sindhuli, which had limited travel on the highway from 6:30 PM to 6:00 AM between June 21 and July 16.

Chief District Officer Umesh Dahakal said vehicles heading from Kathmandu will be stopped at Kavrebhanjyang, while those going towards the capital will be held at Nepalthok, as a safety measure to prevent accidents and ensure public safety during heavy monsoon conditions.
